Optimus Medics look after over 5000 athletes, on the field, each week providing a range of sports specific services including:

FAQs

Do you need sports experience to work for Optimus?

Ideally having some form of club or school sports experience, especially with strapping would be fantastic however for those that are looking to make their first step into sports work please still apply.   We take ALL of our medics through a specific training program at the start of the season to make sure you will hit the ground running on your first match.

What about experienced sports medics - Can Optimus provide a challenging position for me?

Yes - for those who are highly experienced with sports medic or physio work, you will be placed with a 1st grade or senior team to ensure that you get to practice all the skills plus learn more under the guidance of our Senior Physios. 

What qualifications do I need to be an Optimus Medic?

You must be qualified or studying in any of these disciplines 

Physiotherapy - 2nd year post graduate or 3rd year under graduate and above (1st year physios with a sports trainer level 1 could be considered)

Sports Therapy - Studying towards your Advanced Diploma of Sports Thearpy

Medicine -  2nd year and above

Exercise Science - 2nd year undergraduate and above

Is there anything else that I need?

All the normal things need to be considered including:

Eligibility to work in Australia i.e Australian/New Zealand passport holder, Permanent Residency or Working Visa.

Working with Children Check

Depending on your qualification or level of qualification we might advise you to complete SMA's Sports Trainer Level 1 certificate

Professional Indemnity and Public Liability Insurance (can be obtained through SMA after completing Sports Trainer Level 1, Physio or Physio students with APA Membership are covered for PI and PL)

What sort of time commitments do you require?

At the very minimum you must be available for up to 4 hours on a Saturday, we provide services to both School and Community Sports Teams, schools generally play in the morning and clubs from midday onwards.  We also have training coverage shifts, mostly Tuesday and Thursday and can accommodate full day shifts on a Saturday.   Most of our work is between February and September however over the summer we have ad-hoc requirements such as working as a therapist at large international sporting events.
